AFFORDABLE HOUSING
OUR SOLUTION TO THE HOUSING CRISIS
According to research, 4 out of 10 households in our area spend over 30% of their income on rent, and that is outrageous compared with other areas of the U.S.

On the Palo Alto City Council, Councilmember Tanaka consistently fought for housing affordability, most notably the Wilton Court project, an affordable housing project that created 57 units of below market rate housing for the locals.

Councilmember Tanaka supports allowing duplexes, triplexes and small apartments in Silicon Valley. These units can provide more choices for residents who do not qualify for subsidized housing yet are also unable to afford the market rates in our district.

Place faith in Tanaka to make our district a better place to live, work and raise a family.

SMALLER UNITS

CLEARING BUREAUCRATIC HURDLES AND SPEEDING UP INSPECTIONS
During his time on the Palo Alto City Council, Councilmember Tanaka voted to relax parking requirements that took away valuable space for additional housing.
INVEST IN ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS
Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is an attachable housing facility with its own kitchen, sleeping and bathing facilities. Thanks to the small footprint and low cost associated with ADUs, they are an inexpensive way of expanding our housing stock. Our district ought to invest more in ADUs and make it an option for more people. As an ADU owner himself, Councilmember Tanaka knows firsthand the challenges involved, which is why I voted to create an environmental review exemption for ADUs while on the Palo Alto City Council.
